28 January 2019 – Care Home
One in 10 staff say their care homes are turning away obese people as they don’t have the facilities to care for them.
One in four British adults are now obese in older age, which equals roughly 5.8m people over 65, with care homes struggling to deal with this influx of large, older people.
A survey carried out by carehome.co.uk found only 41% of care home staff say they have the bariatric facilities to look after obese residents, with 12% having to turn them away due to lack of resources and equipment.
Ed. If this is true, it is a shame. Changes clearly need to be made to the way care of older people is managed as key demographics shift.
