Dementia symptoms: A simple test could spot Alzheimer’s 16 years before signs are noticed

Dementia tends to affect people over the age of 65 and can cause symptoms such as memory loss, mental sharpness and quickness, and difficulties carrying out daily activities.

The four main types are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.

There is currently no cure for dementia, but researchers have found a protein in the blood that can “very accurately” predict degenerative brain disease well before signs of memory loss begin.
