Malcolm Duffy had been ill for 14 years and a lung transplant was his best chance of recovery. Two weeks after the operation, he died without regaining consciousness.
Surgeons were concerned about the state of the donor lungs when received, but it was too late and they had to use them.
A coroner ruled that he died as a result of multiple organ failure.
Ed. Quality checks on organs should be implemented in all cases. This is a tragedy, and not an isolated incident.
