A care home resident died after being taken swimming and getting into difficulty.

An inquest heard that Ivor Squire, 71, was enjoying a weekly trip to an indoor swimming pool at the Calvert Trust in Barnstaple on 02.11.2017, when he became submerged under water.

The inquest at Exeter’s County Hall heard he responded well to emergency treatment and was taken to North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) where concerns were raised about his lungs as he had taken fluid into them. His health declined and he passed away on 10.11.2017.
