NHS pays moonlighting medics five times as much as Theresa May to plug gaps

02 July 2018 – Telegraph

A new report has revealed that the NHS is paying moonlighting medics up to five times as much as Theresa May to plug gaps in the system.

The health service is suffering huge shortages of staff, particularly in the North, and wastes vast amounts by asking specialists to fill in at short notice.

The new report from The Centre for Policy Studies think-tank found that between October 2016 and September 2017, the top 10 highest paid clinicians earned more than £4 million between them, while one doctor in the north east cost the NHS a staggering £739,000.
