Health bosses have admitted that a mental health patient was left waiting for a bed in the Royal Blackburn Hospital’s emergency department for nearly three days, after it was discovered through a Freedom of Information request.
The man’s plight was revealed by Lancashire County Council’s Labour health spokesman, Jonathan Ashworth, on so-called ‘trolley waits’ where patients spend over 12 hours before admission to hospital wards.
The hospitals trust and the Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, which took over the treatment of the Royal Blackburn patient, apologised to the individual and his family.
